He was born in Ireland and came to London at the age of nineteen where his prodigious draftsmanship saw him join the ranks of Punch Magazine. The work Furniss was undertaking to illustrate was not at all a finished novel, as is the usual custom, but a text in progress, hardly written up yet. A few days after Furniss had agreed, Carroll Harry Furniss (26 March 1854 – 14 January 1925) was a British illustrator. He established his career on the Illustrated London News before moving to Punch. He also illustrated Lewis Carroll's novel Sylvie and Bruno.
